Kentucky unemployment at 26-year high

FRANKFORT — Kentucky’s jobless rate reached a 26-year high of 10.9 percent in June, up slightly from a 10.7 percent unemployment rate in May.

Unemployment rates have not been this high since August 1983, when the jobless rate was 11.1 percent, according to the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

Kentucky’s unemployment rate is also higher than the national average for June. The seasonally adjusted jobless rate nationwide was 9.5 percent.
